If you want to stop wasting energy at home, start by giving your home a free energy check up. Once you know your current impact on the environment, follow some quick tips and take these easy steps to reduce your energy use.

Home improvements and products


There are lots of simple ways to make your home more energy efficient. Insulating your un-insulated loft and walls with loft insulation and cavity wall insulation could save you around £145 a year and reduce your carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions too.

Did you know installing a new boiler and a full set of heating controls could save you up to £225 and 1.1 tonnes of CO2 a year? Discover how to heat your home efficiently and start saving now.

From kettles to TV’s – replace old products around the house with Energy Saving Trust Recommended ones. Energy efficient products will cost you less to run and are better for the environment, so always look for the label!

Don’t stay in the dark about energy saving light bulbs. Depending on how long your lights are in use every day, one energy saving light bulb could save you on average around £2.50 a year. Learn more about energy saving lighting.

Generate your own energy


Renewable energy technologies like wind turbines, solar panels and biomass heaters offer an alternative to fossil fuels and can help reduce your homes CO2 emissions.

There are financial benefits too. Government schemes such as the Renewable Heat Incentive and Feed in Tariffs allow you to sell back the energy you generate.
