Eat Low Carbon
What are you eating?
Register your low carbon meal
for Climate Week 2012.
British people love food – from good
grub to fine dining. And the food that we
eat has an impact on the environment.
Climate Week Cuisine shows people
how they can eat delicious food that
costs less and is more environmentally
friendly. It is a chance for people all
over Britain to show how the food that
they eat can be a part of the solution to
climate change.
Make a Low-Carbon Meal
Our call to action for Climate Week 2012 is to eat a low carbon meal and be part of the solution to climate change. Here are some of our tips on what to eat to ensure your meal is more environmentally friendly:
- LESS – eat less meat and dairy
- LOCAL – eat local, seasonal ingredients
- LEFTOVERS – eat food that would otherwise be thrown away
Meat and dairy have high carbon footprints. Why not make one of your meals a vegetarian or vegan one?
Choose ingredients that haven’t come from half way around the world. Eat a meal with fresh British produce that hasn’t been kept in cold storage for months.
Turn yesterday’s dinner into today’s lunch. Instead of throwing it in the bin find a way to turn it into a tasty treat for later.
Make sure you register your low carbon meal on our website here. Tell us what you ate and who you shared the meal with. Was it a picnic with friends, a low-carbon party, or a shared lunch at the office?

Enter the Competition
You can enter our Climate Week Cuisine competition from the 12th – 18th of March, by submitting your low carbon recipe here. We will be picking ten winners who will receive Tesco vouchers or a SodaStream machine. The best recipe of the week will receive a grand prize of a meal for four at a top London restaurant.
Run an Event on Food
You can also use this Climate Week as an opportunity to run an event about the issues around food and climate change, such as:
How do we make our diets sustainable and low-carbon?
How do we reduce the amount of food we waste?
How do we adapt to rising food prices and a changing climate?
How can we create a secure, local supply of food?
You could host a talk, organise a debate, take people on a tour, or do whatever works for you. Whatever you plan, tell us what you are doing. Register your event here.
